Self-assessment is a formal or informal evaluation of personal actions, attitudes, or performance at a job. It is a valuable tool to ensure that one is on the right path to achieve a goal or to modify a goal. How to do a self-assessment can be just as personal as the results they give. A favorite way of mine is to meditate for a while. Meditation helps me clear my mind and focus on specific areas, find personal obstacles, possible other routes to a goal. Of course, meditation is not testable and may not help in some areas.
Luckily, the Internet is around to test the things that meditation (or a school assignment) cannot help with. A quick Google search produced a very long list of websites that claim they can assist one with all the tests one could want to take. The first website I found is 123test. This site is privately owned and headquartered at the Radbound University Nijmegn in the Netherlands. There are many free tests offered thanks to advertising, which I could not see because I use adblockers. I took a short career test that had me choose between pictures of different activities. The results of the test lead to careers and vocational types known as Holland Codes. The specific types that I favor the most are: artistic, social, conventional.
The second site I found is 16personalities, where I took a personality test. It was both free and short, only 12 minutes long. This test told me that my personality type is Logician (INTP-A). The results on this site were much more in-depth than on 123test. This site offered both free and paid test after creating a profile, which I did not do. I think this site was more helpful than the first site, but I have some reservation concerning these kinds of tests.
My main concern is that they are not always correct. I think it is possible to get different results on different days, or even from morning to afternoon. Also, people change sometimes in short amounts of time. I question how test results are used by companies in hiring practices. It is difficult for me to determine if either of these sites are helpful with self-assessment because I feel these tests try to fit people into categories. People or companies can rely too much on these results and not how they feel about their life or what they want to do. Of course, the results of the personality test I took suggests that I would feel this way.
