Burnin’ (1973) is the last album The Wailers did before they became known as Bob Marley and the Wailers. I don’t pretend to know much, anything, about reggae. I don’t listen to it much. This Waiers album has the reggae most white people have heard. Namely, “Get Up, Stand Up” and, maybe, “I Shot the Sheriff.” I say maybe because Eric Clapton scored a number one hit with “I Shot the Sheriff” and many may have only heard that version. The album starts with “Get Up, Stand Up,” and, for me at least, it kind of feels like a chorus that could be sung today with a little (lot) appropriation. It’s about the lives and poverty in Haiti, not a power hungry Cheeto. I understand that it was also the last song Marley performed on stage before his death. I do like the album and would recommend giving it a listen.
