Whew! Only 349 more to go. This is gonna kill me.
Just when I was beginning to think that I don’t really like The Yardbirds, Roger the Engineer (a.k.a Over Under Sideways Down) came along to confuse me. Not so much musically, but the title fucked me up and Rolling Stone didn’t really help identify which album they meant. When I plugged Roger the Engineer into the Apple Music search bar, I got a 31 song album. I thought, “It must be remastered and they added songs.” So, I headed to Wiki to find the original album. I found a track listing that didn’t match Apple Music at all. Then, I plugged Over Under Sideways Down into Apple Music and I got better results. There was another little catch. Rolling Stone doesn’t specify if it’s the UK edition on the list or the US version. There’s a two song difference. The album has been remastered and is now 22 songs long. I listened to the first 12, which corresponds to the original UK edition. To add to the confusion, the album was not technically called Roger the Engineer ever. Not even in the UK. That unofficial title comes from the cover art, which is a drawing of audio engineer Roger Cameron by one of the band members. Originally, the UK version was called Yardbirds. The US, German, and French title was Over Under Sideways Down. This is a Jeff Beck era Yardbirds album. Wiki tells me that it was the only album with all original material.
It’s fun. Not “Buy It” fun for me. But I chair danced while it was playing and I was writing other posts. That means I noticed it playing. I try not to listen to albums while writing other posts. I want to focus on what I’m supposed to be listening to, but I’m trying to get a bit ahead. Anyway, it’s a fun album, at least, the first 12 songs are. If you listen to the entire remaster album, let me know how the rest of it is.
