Back in early November, a friend of mine posted on Facebook about a new album he was listening to. I don’t remember which one now, although I did look it up on iTunes and even added it to my library to check out. On his post, a few of his other friends posted about new music they were listening to. I made a note of three new albums from people/bands that I had never listened to and looked them up on iTunes.
Bon Iver was one of those bands. If you’ve never heard of them, they are an American indie folk band from Wisconsin. Yes, land of the cheeseheads. Late in September, their third album, 22, A Million dropped. It appears to a critical success, already ranked fairly high on several “best of” lists for 2016. A friend of mine, from another social media platform, hated it and recommended I listen to the first full album from Bon Iver instead.
I’ve listened to 22, A Million several times. I’m not sure what to make of it. Mostly, I enjoy it. Occasionally, I wonder if it’s supposed to sound “like that” or are my speakers just shitty. I dunno which answer is correct, but I keep listening to it. I haven’t gotten around to the other Bon Iver album that was recommended to me, I’ve got a few things ahead of it.
