California Wine Country

So, I’ve been doing a bit of cycling since mom died. There’s no real excuse not to anymore. My total milage for 2015 is currently sitting at 1,031.7 miles. Most of which has been done since mom passed.

I spent a week in California on a Trek Travel trip and rode 147 miles that week alone. It was a great trip that was a little bitter sweet. Mom was supposed to go with me. At least, when I planned the trip, she was going to be my non-riding buddy. Earlier this year, we had decided that maybe a cross country trip wouldn’t be a good idea for her first trip since her amputation. Instead, it was going to be a trial run for her being home alone for a week (yes, I was going to make sure someone was nearby to check on her). Well, needless to say, it was neither. I would frequently roll up to the Trek Travel van and be reminded that mom wasn’t there to hop outta the van and take my picture or make sure I have enough water, sunscreen, snack, whatever. I tried to have enough fun for both of us and, at least once, I sure had enough wine for the both of us. Oh, did I mention the wine? Yeah, it was a wine country trip and there were lots of stops at wineries and at least 3 cases of wine were shipped home.
