My mom listened to this twangy country stuff when I was a kid. I suppose that’s why I can tolerate it but I’d rather just switch it off. Also, this era is why there are jokes like: What do you get when you play a country music record backwards? You get your spouse/lover back, your house back, your dog back, etc., etc. I’ve always understood this joke, but never realized how truly depressing this music is until I listened to this album (Loretta Lynn, All Time Greatest Hits, MCA Nashville, 2002). At least, this album is really depressing. I’d say that I’m happily moving on to the next album but the next album is actually a 4 album boxed set of Merle Haggard. I might need to go back on meds by the time I get to number 476.
