I’ve never listened to Nas. I know that he’s an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Apparently, he’s also an actor. He seems to be a pretty popular musician, selling over 25 million records since 1994. He is often ranked high on various lists of great MCs and lyricists.
Illimatic (Columbia, 1994) is Nas’ debut studio album. It debuted at #12 on the U.S. charts and then fell off and its singles failed to achieve chart success. The album did receive good reviews and the album was certified Gold in 1996 and Platinum in 2001. The album is considered a landmark in East Coast hip hop by writers and music critics.
I listened to it while I was working on my website and I mostly liked it. There are some very strong themes on it and I understand that Nas drew from his own experiences.
