For some reason, when I saw Randy Newman on the list I thought this was some kind of joke. I thought some actor had snuck his way in. I can’t even put my finger on which actor I’m mistaking him for but that’s what I thought.
Randy Newman is an American singer-songwriter. He’s done a lot of film composing: Ragtime, Awakenings, The Natural, Toy Story (also 2 & 3), Monsters, Inc., Cars, James and the Giant Peach, and others. He’s been nominated for a bunch of Academy Awards. He’s won two Academy Awards, three Emmys, six Grammys, and the Governor’s Award from the Recording Academy. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002, became a Disney Legend in 2007, and inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013.
And I still keep mistaking him for some shitty actor.
Good Old Boys (Reprise, 1974) was his fifth studio album and it peaked at number 36 on the Billboard 200. It was his first album to achieve any commercial success.
It’s fair to say that I had never heard of it and I’ll probably never listen to it again. Nothing about it stands out in my mind. I’m still trying to figure out why I think he’s an actor.
