I don’t remember much about Sinead O’Connor. I seem to recall a video, I think for “Nothing Compares 2 U” that just featured her upper body, possibly just her head, while she sang (lip-synced) along. I liked that song. I remember not liking the follow up song. I believe there was some controversy over I don’t know what. And, that’s about the extent of my Sinead O’Connor memories.
I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got (Chrysalis, 1990) was her second album. And, according to Wiki it was one of the best selling albums in the world in 1990. It was also critically acclaimed and is home to her most famous single, “Nothing Compares 2 U” (all of that according to Wiki). The album was nominated for four Grammys, winning one, which Sinead O’Connor refused to accept (nomination or award). I didn’t care enough to go looking for why.
Overall, I liked the album. If you give it a close listening, it’s filled with raw emotion. If not, it seems pretty chill and relaxing. At least I found it relaxing while I was doing some work the first time I listened to it. Then, about halfway through, I had a wtf moment and had to go sit down and really listen to it.
